Why attend the course?

In this intensive course (limited to 4 participants) you will receive a firm foundation in both Kalarippayat and Kalari Chikitsa to a level at which you will feel both competent and confident to practice independently.

You will gain a solid understanding of the theoretical background and scientific explanation as to why Kalari is an effective system of training, treatment and rehabilitation and be well prepared to advance onto the upcoming teacher assistant course. You will also learn how to treat acute injuries using Kalari techniques, including sprains, strains and both muscle and joint pain

Part 1:
Martial Art

What you shall learn:

  • The Lohar (grounding warm-up exercises from which Kung fu was developed
  • Kalugal 1-5 (kicks to improve flexibility and flow)
  • Ground exercises 1-5 (for upper body strengthening and stabilisation)
  • The principal Vadivu (postures) of Kalari (for lower body strengthening and stabilisation)
  • Prayer forms 1-3 (for building flow, release and alignment)
  • Siva and Sakti forms (to build power, coordination and flow)
  • Stick rolling (to improve proprioception and shoulder strengthening)
  • Southern style empty hand techniques 1-4
  • Long stick first form from northern and southern styles

What you shall learn:

  • Observe clients receiving Kalari Chikitsa and Marma therapy
  • Receive 7 days of Kalari Nadi Massage
  • Learn how to perform Khizi and Dhara treatments (for muscle and joint pain)
  • Learn how to give Kalari Nadi massage
  • Learn how to assess for muscle and joint pain
  • Get qualified as a Kalari Chikitsa Therapist
  • Leave the course equipped to help others with what you have learnt

This course is unique:

Unlike many courses where you will be one of many participating, I shall limit the group to 4 participants in order to offer a tailor made approach, that suits your Ayurvedic constitution, current physical condition and energy levels.

You will receive a unique introduction to this ancient practice with a strong and clear theoretical explanation of both the gross and subtle bodies and how to condition them through Kalari exercise and treatment.

What to expect from the course?

Training:

  • The Kalari training will take place mornings and evenings, up to 2 hours per session.
  • We will be training for 6 days a week - the day of rest is important in preventing a build up of lactic acid in the body and to allow your fascia to rehydrate.

Treatment:

  • Each day we will have 1.5hr practical session on Kalari treatment in which you will observe , assist and learn how to give simple treatments to yourself and others.
  • You will complete this course with an internationally certified as a Kalari therapist and able to assess and treat clients independently - that means you can start to make a living from what you have learnt !

Theory:

  • Over the 30 days you will receive a thorough explanation of all the theoretical concepts behind Kalari. You will also be given a clear underpinning in all the recent scientific discoveries that are starting to validate Kalari in terms of the Neuromyofascial web the flow of electricity within the body.

To Take home:

After completion you will receive a printed and illustrated manual about all you have covered and a internationally recognised certificate, endorsed by Kerala Kalarippayat Academy (one of the leading teaching institutions of this art form)

Further , you will have your own 90 minute training programme that you can repeat independently and continue to improve on your own.

You will be provided membership to the ‘KalariLab Online Virtual school’ which will allow you to continue learning in the future, with regular updates from me and other teachers and discounts to attend future courses , including masterclasses with my Gurukkal and his most senior students.

Who is teaching?

Adam has been practicing Kalari for over 18 years, teaching since 2006 and working as a therapist in Kalari Chikitsa since 2005. He also studied Physiotherapy at the University of London and worked in several Physiotherapy departments in the UK – treating Musculoskeletal, Respiratory and Neurological conditions. Working as a professional actor from 2003-2008 he collaborated with dancers and performers, using both Kalari exercise and treatment in their training and rehabilitation. In both his teachings and treatments he now draws on these two bodies of knowledge to provide the most holistic approach possible.
